Plot Summary of "The Wheat Field": This is a story that takes place over five days and four nights in the Warring States period.

Luyi, a small city in the State of Zhao. Three years ago, Lord Jucong (played by Wang Xueqi) had just married his young and beautiful wife Li (played by Fan Bingbing), when he led all the adult men of his clan to join the battle between Qin and Zhao at Changping. Every day, Li and the women, children, and elderly hoped for Zhao's victory over Qin so the men could return home sooner...

At Changping, the Zhao army suffered a major defeat, and the Qin army spent the night slaughtering the captured Zhao soldiers, creating a scene both cruel and tragic. Qin soldier Xia (played by Huang Jue), driven by the desire to return home for the harvest, quietly left the battlefield. On his escape route, Xia met a young Qin soldier Ze (played by Du Jiayi). The two, with vastly different personalities, went from mutual suspicion to embarking on their journey home together. Meanwhile, one after another Qin military patrol teams were setting up traps to capture deserters from both Qin and Zhao...

At dawn, Xia and Ze, unconscious, appeared by the river of Luyi and were saved by the women. Upon waking, they learned they were in an Zhao-controlled city and were terrified. They lied, claiming they were also from Zhao. The women of Luyi, seeing the two 'Zhao soldiers', were thrilled. However, Lady Li, the wife of the city lord (played by Fan Bingbing), and the priestess (played by Wang Ji) maintained a calm and somewhat unclear suspicion about the entire event.
