Rick Marshall, played by Will Ferrell, is a scientist who's considered a bit of an oddball by his friends. Though respected in some circles, he's notorious among his peers for being somewhat eccentric and often coming up with outlandish ideas and behaviors. Despite this, everyone envies Rick for having Holly, played by Anna Friel, as his assistant. Holly always manages to organize and handle all the chaotic tasks that Rick, who can be a bit clueless at times, struggles with. Moreover, Holly is known as a stunning beauty within their circle. One day, Rick, who always has new ideas, decides to embark on an exploration in the wilderness. Not exactly an expert in fieldwork and unable to function without her, Rick brings Holly along. He also invites Will, a wilderness rescue expert played by Danny McBride, to join them. In contrast to Rick's carefree attitude, Will is meticulous and overly cautious, especially since he believes the wilderness is full of dangers and insists that everyone follow his rules. However, Rick, who never plays by the rules, doesn't care much for Will's warnings, leading to numerous arguments between the two. Holly often has to mediate to keep the peace.
The trio ends up in Colorado, where they go rafting. Unexpectedly, a river whirlpool sucks them into a mysterious world filled with prehistoric creatures—giant blood-sucking worms, oversized T-Rexes, apes that speak English, and even some unattractive aliens. This is the Lost Continent. Rick is thrilled to be in this strange world, but problems quickly arise. How will they survive in this dangerous place? More importantly, how will they return to the real world? The key to solving all these issues seems to lie with a character named Chaka, played by Jorma Taccone.
