It has been an anniversary since the film "Nanjing Massacre", but the film circle's enthusiasm for the Nanjing theme has not waned. Among them, Zhang Yimou's "The Flowers of War" is a new addition. "The Flowers of War" is a movie adapted from Yan Geling's novel "Nanjing". Zhang Yimou's new film directed that year locked on the war background theme and started filming the script of "The Flowers of War", which is based on the Nanjing Massacre. This film tells the story of how the missionary priest, the courtesans, Chinese wounded soldiers, and a few young ladies from noble families faced the impending disaster together in Nanjing during the massacre in that year. It is understood that Edko Films Co., Ltd. in Hong Kong bought the film rights of "The Flowers of War" from Yan Geling and handed it over to their long-time friend Zhang Yimou to direct. In addition, Zhang Yimou specially met with Yan Geling in Beijing, hoping she could serve as the screenwriter for the film. However, due to being deeply immersed in that tragic history while writing "The Flowers of War", Ms. Yan was physically and mentally exhausted and declined politely. Zhang Yimou then had to start anew and have his close-knit think tank rewrite the script.
