Zuo Quan, originally named Zuo Jiquan, was born on a certain day in a poor peasant family in Hunan Province. He entered the first term of the Whampoa Military Academy in year and after graduation went to Soviet Army University for further study. After returning to China in year, he taught at the Red Army School in the Central Soviet Area and later served as the chief of staff of the field headquarters. He also held positions such as political commissar, commander of the 15th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and chief of staff of the First Army Group. After the Long March reached northern Shaanxi, he served as acting commander of the First Army Group of the Red Army and chief of staff of the Red Army's Front Enemy General Headquarters. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he served as deputy chief of staff of the Eighth Route Army and concurrently as chief of staff of the Front Enemy General Headquarters. On May 25, 1942, he unfortunately died in battle while fighting against the Japanese army in Matian, Liaoxian County (now Zuoquan County), Shanxi Province, at the age of years old.
