Czech former pilot Franta was imprisoned by the government for promoting Western bourgeois liberalization thoughts. In prison, he recalled his youth and the days when he joined the British Royal Air Force during World War II. When the German army invaded Czech, Franta pretended to surrender to the German army, then quietly escaped from Czech to exile in Britain with Karel, a young man who was undergoing training. They received training there and joined the British Air Force to fight the invaders together, during which the two established an intimate relationship.
