This film tells of the massacre of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire, which the Turkish government does not officially recognize. The film participated in the Berlin Film Festival. The Berliner Welt published an article by Peter Zander, which mentioned that the appearance of "Larks Farm" was very timely, after an Armenian journalist was murdered and after Nobel laureate Pamuk was threatened. This film could have become a highlight of this Berlin Film Festival, but it wasn't even in the main competition. Many people questioned the festival and suspected whether the festival chairman avoided political controversy, causing the film "Larks Farm" by director Fatih Akin to lose its chance to win an award.
