A world-renowned surgeon moves with his son and daughter from the bustling city of New York to a snowy mountain town. They've never been here before. The only reason they come is because his late wife once told him, "In my heart, this place is as beautiful as paradise." In the past, when he was a world-famous surgeon, he buried himself in work, evading his own poorly handled marriage and family life. Now, he must start over and learn how to be a good father.
Thus, one story after another unfolds in this small town: children who have lost their mothers, girls who have lost their boyfriends, parents who have lost their sons, sisters who have lost their brothers, wives who almost lose their husbands upon discovering they are gay, and pregnant girls abandoned by their piano teachers deciding to get an abortion. It's hard to say that the people in this small town are cruel, even though every so often they do something foolish that hurts others. Still, it remains a town where everyone in these stories lives through their ups and downs. As time passes, adults grow older, children grow up, and life twists and turns, leaving deeper scars in their hearts, one after another.
