Usage characteristics: These determine the main performance and scope of use of the valve. Valve usage characteristics include: type of valve (shutoff valve, control valve, safety valve, etc.); product type (gate valve, globe valve, butterfly valve, ball valve, etc.); materials of the main components of the valve (valve body, bonnet, stem, disc, sealing surface); and the method of valve actuation, among others.
Structural characteristics: These define some structural features that determine the methods for installation, maintenance, and upkeep of the valve. Structural characteristics include: structural length and overall height of the valve; connection form with the pipeline (flange connection, threaded connection, clamp connection, external thread connection, welded end connection, etc.); seal face form (inset ring, threaded ring, hardfacing, spray welding, valve body itself); and stem structure form (rotary stem, rising stem), among others.
