In recent years, online dating has become very popular in Hong Kong. However, outreach social workers have pointed out that online dating has taken a turn for the worse, with young people engaging in promiscuous behavior through the internet. This not only includes verbal seduction but also extends to explicit video chats. According to Ming Pao, Chan Man-ho, the unit director of the Tuen Mun and Kwai Chung Outreach Social Work Team at the Hong Kong Youth Association, said that in the past six months, social workers at the association have received about 50 to 60 cases related to promiscuity via the internet. The association's senior supervisor, Tang Leung-shun, added that last year, social workers received only about 10 such cases, raising concerns about the situation.

A 19-year-old known as "Second Uncle" (a pseudonym) began meeting women through chat rooms and dating websites at the age of 15, encouraged by friends.
