The backrest can be classified into high and low, tiltable and non-tiltable types. If the patient has good balance and control over the trunk, a wheelchair with a low backrest can be selected to allow the patient more mobility. Conversely, a high-back wheelchair should be chosen.
High-back wheelchairs are mainly used for high-level paraplegia and severe patients, including two types: backrest inclining and backrest & seat reclining simultaneously.
