The Great Wall of China - one of the newly elected wonders of the world, was built along China's northern border, passing through many provinces, with the aim of resisting the invasion of Mongol tribes. The construction of the Great Wall took place between the 15th and 16th centuries BC. It is the longest man-made structure in the world, stretching over 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers).
