The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The "Christ the Redeemer" statue, which stands at a total height of 105 feet (38 meters) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was successfully selected as one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World," announced on July 7th. It has become a new wonder created by humanity, chosen by people all over the world.

The New Seven Wonders of the World were determined through online and telephone voting, similar to the format of American Idol. The other six wonders include the Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Machu Picchu in Peru, Chichen Itza's El Castillo pyramid in Mexico, the Roman Colosseum, and the Taj Mahal.
