The "Christ the Redeemer" statue, standing 105 feet (38 meters) tall, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, successfully made the list of the "New Seven Wonders of the World," announced on July 7. It has become one of the new wonders of the world as chosen by people globally.

The New Seven Wonders of the World were determined through online and telephone voting, similar to the format of American Idol. The other six wonders are the Great Wall of China, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, the Incan Machu Picchu site in Peru, the El Castillo pyramid at Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Roman Colosseum, and the Taj Mahal.
