Warren Schmidt, over 60 years old, has retired and is living a leisurely life at home. Since retiring, he has been idle, constantly arguing with his wife, complaining endlessly about his past career, and passing the time by watching TV. He feels lost about the future just as he is perplexed by the past. He finally finds a bit of meaningful purpose in sponsoring a boy from Tanzania. However, when he returns home after receiving a letter from the boy, he discovers his wife lying on the kitchen floor.
