Alexandria, the largest seaport city in Egypt, was the capital of Alexander the Great of Greece and Macedonia in 332 BC, the capital of the Ptolemaic Kingdom which unified Egypt in 304 BC, and became the capital of the Roman province in 30 BC. At that time, the population reached 400,000, and it was known as one of the three great cities in the world along with Rome and Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul).

Strangely, all relics from the ancient Greek and Roman eras have vanished without a trace, and even the sites cannot be found. The only surviving relic is the Pompey's Pillar (so named because it was built during the era of Pompey the Great of Rome). It stands 28 meters high, with a base diameter of 2.8 meters and a top diameter of 2 meters, standing lonely on a stone base about a man's height. The question remains: where did the other relics go?
