Plot introduction:

The story from Eileen Chang's namesake original work takes place in Shanghai during WWII, where various forces interweave. A female spy disguised as a student approaches Mr. Yee, another spy's wife, to obtain intelligence but ends up falling in love with Mr. Yee. Although it is a spy-themed novel, the main focus is on the complicated and tangled romance between the two protagonists. One can understand the tone of the novel by looking at Mr. Yee's inner monologue: "He was not optimistic about the war situation. But did he know what his future would be? To find a soulmate, he'd die without regrets. He felt her shadow would forever accompany him, comforting him. Though she hated him, her final feelings for him were so intense that they transcended any specific emotion—just having emotions mattered. They were in the primal relationship of hunter and prey, tiger and伥, ultimate possession. Only then does she truly belong to him, alive or dead."

The distributor of this film is Focus Features, which previously released "Brokeback Mountain." James Schamus, CEO of Focus Features and an old friend of Ang Lee, will serve as the executive producer of this movie. Schamus, who has collaborated with Ang Lee on nine films, said: "Ang is making a very exciting movie, one that differs from any film he has made before. 'Lust, Caution' is a unique Asian story that will shock and captivate audiences worldwide."
