Plot Introduction of "Langgu Lane": During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, a theft occurred in the Zangzhen Tower of the Imperial Palace. Wu Tingyu, who was implicated, was beheaded, Cheng Zhi (played by Liu Wei) lost a leg as a result, Xin Wenyan (played by Wang Gang) stole a small golden statue from the treasury and then committed suicide, which was discovered by Cheng Zhi. The eldest son of the Xin family, Shuhan (played by Ding Zhicheng), fled with his entire family from Langgu Lane, and Cheng Zhi left a message saying he would find the small golden statue. Eight years later, the Xin family returned to Langgu Lane. Cheng Zhi and his son Cheng Dayu (played by Zhang Yaoyang) were closely watching the small golden statue in the Xin family. Under the leadership of Wu Commander, Dayu failed to intercept the small golden statue. Yingzhu (played by Chen Yiran), daughter of the Wu family, married the second son of the Xin family, Shuheng (played by Ye Jing). However, Shuheng fell in love with Da Po Qiupa (played by Teng Liming), causing Yingzhu to bear resentment. By chance, Yingzhu met Dayu through Bita (played by Zhang Wenci), the concubine of Wu Commander, and had a child named Side with him. Bita harbored hatred as a result. Shuhan handed over Side to the servant Xiaocui, who later married the Xin family steward Kuai Xing and had a son named Fanghua.

In the ninth year of the Republic of China, Dayu returned to Langgu Lane with his daughter Yiling, hoping for a peaceful life. Bizhu (played by Gan Tingting), disguised, married Shuheng in order to take revenge for her sister Bita. Bizhu accidentally killed Bita when trying to prevent her from killing Side, and Bizhu was sent to prison. Shuhan delayed treating his daughter Siyi due to saving Side, resulting in Siyi contracting meningitis.

During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the children of the families grew up. Yiling, Dayu's daughter, fell in love with Sicong, the eldest grandson of the Xin family, while the second daughter of the Xin family, Sihui, fell in love with Fanghua. Due to the grudges among the families, Sicong and Yiling eloped without approval, and Fanghua left Beijing alone. Siyi married Liu Jinpeng, who coveted the small golden statue. The gambling-addicted Side mortgaged the deed of the small golden statue to the Japanese. Under the protection of Xin Shuhan, the small golden statue remained safe, but Cheng Zhi still had it on his mind.

As the civil war began, Bizhu returned to the Xin family courtyard. Sidu, who had been exiled to Shanghai, came back to do business selling antiques. Through the conspiracy of Sidu and Liu Jinpeng, Shuheng sacrificed himself to save the entire family.

After liberation, Sicong, Yiling, and Fanghua all returned. At the suggestion of Wu family's Chengzhi, Shuhan returned the small golden statue to the state. After more than half a century of grudges, Shuhan and Cheng Zhi reconciled. On the day of retrieving the treasure, Cheng Zhi passed away contentedly...
