Public Enemy Plot Introduction:

In the 1930s in the United States, during the Great Depression, people were in a state of panic, unsure of what to do next. In this turbulent era, some bold and reckless individuals began to use their methods to defy the entire society. A man named John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) came into the public eye, and his claim to fame was robbing banks in broad daylight. Members of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation were desperately pursuing this notorious super-bank robber John and his accomplices "Baby Face" Nelson and "Pretty Boy" Floyd. This movie tells the story of the showdown between gangster boss John Dillinger (played by Johnny Depp) and FBI agent Melvin Purvis (played by Christian Bale). Marion Cotillard, who won the Oscar for Best Actress shortly after her role in "La Vie en Rose," plays Depp's lover, Billie Frechette. For a time, Dillinger became the most prominent criminal during the Great Depression, and he himself was listed as Public Enemy No. 1 by the U.S. government. For the newly appointed FBI Director Hoover (Billy Crudup), capturing John Dillinger was of great significance, so he classified this case as top priority and formed a special task force led by Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale).

This group not only wasn't intimidated by the government's wanted notices but instead became even more brazen in their bank robberies, engaging in several gunfights with the police on the streets. Although Melvin Purvis received advance tips several times and arranged proper surveillance, John Dillinger always managed to miraculously escape from the police's pursuit. Even when he was finally captured, he successfully broke out of jail with the help of his accomplices. To evade capture, he underwent a minor plastic surgery, allowing him to hide in plain sight. The confident John Dillinger then publicly resided in downtown Chicago after his cosmetic surgery and even started a relationship with a recently divorced young woman, Polly Hamilton (Lily Sobieski), and they quickly became intimate.

However, John Dillinger's plastic surgery did not escape the keen eyes of Hamilton's landlord, Anna Sage (Emily Dewan). In the eyes of this middle-aged woman, John Dillinger's true identity held immense value because it could allow her, an illegal immigrant to the U.S., to obtain legal residency. Therefore, Anna reported this matter to Melvin Purvis. Melvin Purvis, who had been troubled by the pursuit of John Dillinger's whereabouts, was overjoyed upon receiving such information. He quickly identified John Dillinger's movements and prepared to capture the entire gang led by John Dillinger. But John Dillinger had actually noticed the police's moves long ago, and he also had an unexpected gift prepared for the police...
