People always wishfully refer to Google's new products as "killers", thinking that they will knock out competing products. But in fact, apart from the search engine, Google hasn't "killed" any competitor in other areas. For example, people once thought that Google Base would "kill" eBay and Craigslist, and Google Checkout would "kill" PayPal, but none of these expectations have come true. The same applies to online encyclopedias; even though it occasionally makes mistakes, Wikipedia remains a valuable resource that won't disappear in the short term.
