Today, December 12, 2007, Movable Type officially becomes open source.
Today, Six Apart embraces open source by announcing that Movable Type has officially been made open source. This means that Movable Type users can modify and redistribute Movable Type at will, and MT users can use Movable Type for any purpose.
This is great news for Movable Type and its users, signifying that the biggest advantage of WordPress over Movable Type—open source—no longer exists, because Movable Type is now open source as well. For Six Apart, this opens a new chapter, bringing with it new opportunities and challenges.
Additionally, Movable Type is released under the GPL license. For more details, please refer to the official announcement.
