Problems brought by SNS social networking software - Virginia Tech shooting tragedy

The development of SNS has gradually taken shape. Facebook has grown so massively in a short period of time that some people say it might become another major carrier for the next generation of online advertising. Indeed, the growth of blogs, SNS, and other social news has made the world smaller and smaller. It can spread any controversial, eye-catching or sensitive topic around the world overnight. You may think this is pretty cool, but without realizing it, some inappropriate remarks could hurt others. After all, there isn't yet a sound legal system to maintain such communities.

Below is a phone recording about someone who used the Virginia Tech shooting as the theme for a Halloween party. Pictures from the party were then publicly posted on Facebook. What seemed like normal behavior actually hurt those indirectly affected by the event.

This is how the party organizer (a Penn State student) defended himself: "In my personal opinion, I don't care if it hurt anyone else... If I really wanted to hurt you guys through this, believe me, I'd do something much more provocative to each one of you. I would wear a shirt that says 'I hate Virginia Tech and I'm going to kill them all' and send the picture to everyone at your school." (Pretty harsh, huh?)
