The annual summer fishing competition held by the riverside, brimming with natural beauty, took place again this year. The one who emerged victorious, surpassing all others, was none other than Sabu Sabu, a mere thirteen years old. Sabu is an open-minded and ordinary teenager who lives with his grandfather, a renowned fishing expert. With his innate talent and his grandfather's guidance, Sabu's fishing skills have continued to improve.
With the summer vacation here, Sabu spends every day fishing by the river with Yuriko Takayama, his childhood friend. An American professional angler, Enå·Gyojin, takes notice of this young champion. He tells Sabu about a giant mysterious fish in the Night Cry Valley, sparking Sabu's curiosity. As Sabu prepares to go on a fishing adventure in the legendary Night Cry Valley with Gyojin, his sister from Tokyo, Aiko, who has returned to their hometown, expresses her wish for Sabu to receive a good education at a prestigious school and wants to take him to Tokyo.
Sabu's grandfather proposes that if Sabu can catch the mysterious fish, he will be allowed to follow his own path. Aiko accepts this proposal. Thus, they set out for the Night Cry Valley. Does the legendary giant fish truly exist? Will Sabu be able to catch it? The adventure of this young boy pursuing legends and dreams begins.
