The story of "Soul-chasing Dart" describes how Qinghong侠 hero Liu Wenhlong's house was plundered and burned by the chaotic world tyrant Zhou Chao and Ma Ying. Liu's wife was brutally murdered, but her son Yulang escaped harm along with a loyal servant by hiding in a well. While pursuing the tyrants, Liu is injured by them and they escape. Later, Liu carries his son, servant, and apprentices Hu Zifeng and Zhang Peishan on a three-year arduous journey seeking revenge. Tired of the lonely and monotonous life, Hu commits an improper act with a villager's wife and is caught by Liu. In the ensuing struggle, Hu seizes Liu’s Soul-chasing Dart, kills the woman, and flees.

Liu then adopts the orphaned daughter of the woman, named Yuchan, as his disciple and decides to abandon his quest for vengeance, retiring from martial affairs. As time passes, Yuchan and Qin Ping grow up and fall in love with Lang Yuehua. However, one day, Yuchan encounters Hu who deceitfully convinces her that Liu was the one who killed her mother, leading her to mistakenly believe Liu is her mother's murderer.
