In a remote farm lives Betty and her son Tommy. Tommy never knows who his father is, and his mother always tells him that she doesn't know either. Tommy himself thinks his father is an astronaut, and his mother has never clarified it. So every night, the little boy looks up at the sky, waiting for his father to come back. Betty often feels very sorrowful herself. Tommy wants to see a smile on his mother's face, but how can he make that happen? One day, he hears that a circus is coming to town. But due to an administrative error, the theater cannot be set up in town. Tommy takes this opportunity to persuade his mother to host the circus performers on their property. The performers settle near their home, but a new problem arises: the people transporting the theater are lost, and without the theater, there can be no circus performance. While the performers wait for the theater to arrive, Tommy gradually discovers the joyous life of these travelers. Meanwhile, love slowly blossoms between two lonely hearts.
