The film "Wu Lang's Eight-Trigram Staff" tells a story set in the mid-Northern Song Dynasty, when external threats were becoming increasingly urgent. The Liao Kingdom desired to annex the Central Plains. Prince Yelü Lian of the Liao Kingdom (played by Wang Longwei) repeatedly led troops into the pass. The rulers and ministers of the Song Dynasty were corrupt and incapable of defending against the invaders. It was only thanks to General Yang Ye leading his troops to repel the Liao soldiers that the situation remained somewhat stable. Pan Renshuai and Guan Gui, jealous of the accomplishments of the Yang family generals, conspired with foreign powers and colluded with the Liao people to harm the Yang family. In the Battle of Jinsha Beach, the Yang family was almost completely wiped out. Only Wu Lang (played by Liu Jiayi) and Liulang (played by Fu Sheng) managed to break through enemy lines. Wu Lang, injured, escaped to the wilderness and eventually took refuge at Qingliang Temple where he became a monk, diligently practicing until he mastered the Eight-Trigram staff technique. Pan Renshuai conspired with Liao generals to besiege Wutai Mountain. Fueled by national and personal grievances, Wu Lang single-handedly descended the mountain, using his Eight-Trigram staff to kill the Liao general and the treacherous minister before departing far away to promote martial arts and Buddhist teachings.
