Liu Sanjie tells the story of the hardworking and happy life of a Zhuang family in picturesque Guilin: Liu Er, his sister Liu Sanjie, the old fisherman A Niu, and his daughter Zhou Mei, who live together like one big happy family. Liu Sanjie and the other girls love to pick tea on the mountain while singing folk songs. However, the landlord Mo Huairen seizes the tea mountain and forbids the common people from picking tea. Encouraged by Liu Sanjie, the villagers tear down the signs prohibiting tea picking. Enraged, Mo Huairen tries to forbid singing as well. Liu Sanjie challenges him to a singing competition, promising that if he wins, she will stop singing. Mo Huairen invites scholars to compete against Liu Sanjie, drawing a large crowd. With her quick wit and talent, Liu Sanjie defeats her opponents, forcing Mo Huairen to flee in disgrace. However, unwilling to accept defeat, Mo Huairen devises a wicked plan and kidnaps Liu Sanjie, trying to force her into submission. Remaining steadfast and resolute, Liu Sanjie refuses to yield. A Niu bravely breaks into Mo's house and rescues Liu Sanjie. Mo Huairen and his henchmen chase them by boat, but the villagers help Liu Sanjie escape. Liu Sanjie and A Niu express their love for each other through folk songs. The feudal authorities issue an order to ban singing, but Liu Sanjie leads the villagers in resisting with their voices. Under the oppression of feudal forces, Liu Sanjie is forced to leave, but she continues to inspire people in new places with her songs, encouraging them to fight against feudal power.
