Junshi Kotani was born male, married a woman, and had children. However, struggling with gender identity disorder, despite being physiologically male, Junshi felt a deep sense of confusion about his identity. He eventually underwent gender reassignment surgery to become female, divorced his wife, and changed his name to Junmi Kotani. Under the special law for gender identity disorder, since she had children, her legal records could not be amended to reflect her new gender. Despite this, Junmi worked as a long-distance bus driver while raising her two sons, who were in elementary school. One day, her eldest son was forced to quit the baseball team because other parents on the team claimed that Junmi's gender transition was having a negative impact on the children's education.
