Young and beautiful Christine Brown, played by Alison Lohman, works at a bank in Los Angeles. Her job is to review and approve small loans. Her career seems promising, and her love life is also quite fulfilling. She has a charming professor boyfriend named Clay Dalton, played by Justin Gaston. Their lives are happy and peaceful until one day, Mrs. Ganoush, a mysterious Gypsy woman played by Rona Refare, comes to the bank and pleads with Christine to delay her housing loan repayment. Faced with a dilemma—should she make an exception out of sympathy for Mrs. Ganoush or follow the rules to leave a good impression on her boss, Mr. Jacks, played by David Paymer, to facilitate her promotion—Christine ultimately chooses the latter. As a result, Mrs. Ganoush's house is reclaimed, and feeling humiliated, she seeks revenge by tearing off a button and cursing Christine, turning her life into a living hell. On one hand, Christine suffers daily from the torment of hell, while on the other hand, her atheist boyfriend misunderstands her unusual behavior. Eventually, she seeks help from the fortune-teller Ram Jas, played by Dilip Rao, to help her escape from this nightmare. The method Ram uses, fighting poison with poison, forces Christine to face even greater torture.
