Spring Dreams of the Old Capital

The Spring Dream of the Former Capital tells the story of how wealthy young Fan Jiashu and Guan Shan went to Beijing for school. They successively met songstress Shen Fengxian and Li Lihua, street performer Guan Xiuzhu and Lingbo, and rich man's daughter He Lixia. Li Lihua and Jiashu fell in love at first sight with Fengxian. The other two were very helpless. When Jiashu returned home to visit his mother who was ill, Fengxian was forcibly married by her uncle to General Zhang and Jing Miao. Fengxian's refusal resulted in her being tortured. Xiuzhu sneaked into the Marshal's residence to help Jiashu and Fengxian meet, but they were discovered by General Zhang.
