This series tells the legendary life of Empress Feng, the first female reformer in Chinese history with remarkable political achievements. The story takes place in the Northern Wei Dynasty during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period. It was during the reign of Emperor Taiwu, in the tenth year of Taipingzhenjun era. Emperor Taiwu issued an edict ordering General Feng Miao to lead troops to attack Rouran. Minister Yi Hun strongly opposed this due to Feng Miao being a surrendered general. Consort Feng came forward to support General Feng Miao. In the end, Emperor Taiwu decided that Feng Miao would still lead the troops. After Feng Miao's defeat, Emperor Taiwu, greatly enraged, sent Yi Hun to slaughter the Feng family. Feng Lang, Feng's brother, was also executed. Feng Lang's son, Feng Xi, managed to survive by fleeing to the Qiang tribe. Feng Lang's daughter, Feng Shuyi, after many twists and turns, eventually entered the palace as a small slave maid despite her criminal status. The young Feng Shuyi was smart and resourceful.
