1. When near buildings and indoors, pay attention to the following four points:

First, do not stay on the roof.

At 4 PM on August 8, 1996, Sun from Heyuan City, Guangdong Province lost his 16-year-old son who was adjusting the faulty TV antenna on the rooftop when he was struck by lightning and unfortunately died. This is because most lightning strikes occur at the top of buildings.

Second, remember to close windows and doors.

For reinforced concrete frame structures, closing windows and doors can help prevent side lightning and ball lightning from entering. Most ball lightning enters through chimneys, windows, or doors, moving around indoors for several seconds before escaping, which often causes explosions. At 6 AM on May 29, 1995, a family of four surnamed Zhang in Limushaoyao Village, Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County, Liaoning Province were sleeping when a ball of lightning entered through the window, causing an explosion that led to a house fire. A 4-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy, and their mother were struck by lightning and unfortunately died.

Third, during a lightning strike, it is not advisable to approach exposed metal objects in buildings, such as water pipes, radiators, gas pipes, and especially stay away from dedicated lightning rod down conductors.

In the afternoon of June 5, 1993, a police station office in Beijing was struck by lightning, knocking down the deputy captain who was on the phone, and anyone inside who touched metal objects received an electric shock.

Fourth, do not use electrical appliances without lightning protection facilities.

In 1986, there was a report in Hunan Province where five people were killed by lightning while under indoor lighting and switches. On the evening of August 9, 1994, four women in a village in Xinmin County, Liaoning Province were sitting around watching TV when lightning traveled through the outdoor antenna, destroying the TV and injuring the people. 2. During thunderstorm conditions, when people are outside of buildings, how should they protect their own safety?

First, do not enter sheds, guard booths, or other low buildings.

On July 9, 1994, migrant workers in Nanzhang County, Hubei Province took shelter from the rain in a shed, resulting in 66 people being struck by lightning, with 14 seriously injured and 25 lightly injured.
