The Beijing Olympic volleyball competition held the women's semifinal matches on the 19th. In a match between Chinese players, veteran Tian Jia, who is competing in her third Olympics, partnered with younger teammate Wang Jie to defeat compatriots Zhang Xi / Xue Chen. Meanwhile, the defending champions, the American duo Walsh / May-Treanor, also defeated their Brazilian opponents to advance to the final.

The golden American pair has not lost a single set in their six matches at this Olympic Games, and their winning streak in world competitions has now extended to 108 matches.

Both Chinese pairs had previously achieved five wins in five matches. Their meeting in the semifinals ensured them at least a silver medal, creating history for Chinese beach volleyball. In this all-Chinese showdown on the 19th, the four Chinese players ranked second and fourth in the world respectively delivered a thrilling match for the entire audience. In the first two sets, both teams pushed the scores beyond 21 points: 22:24, 29:27, each pair taking one set.

In the decisive third set, Tian Jia's experience from three Olympic Games became the key to victory. She led Wang Jie to disrupt the rhythm of their opponents with aggressive attacks right from the start, causing numerous mistakes from Xue Chen / Zhang Xi. They ultimately won the third set 15:8, securing their ticket to the final.

An emotional Tian Jia said after the match: "If you check our records this year, Schellen (Xue Chen) and their team have indeed been outstanding. Their technical statistics are stronger than ours. Defeating them today is truly a miracle. I thank my teammates, and please continue to cheer for us in the final."

In the other semifinal, the golden American duo Walsh / May-Treanor predictably defeated Brazil's Antunes / Ribero 2:0. The women's beach volleyball final and bronze medal match will be held on the 21st.
