On August 18, Agence France-Presse reported that Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), would give resounding recognition to the successful hosting of the Beijing Olympics. However, Rogge revealed that he would not call a new Olympic venue "the best ever," but instead use even better words for praise.

"There is a tradition where the IOC president says this is the best celebration ever. But this makes my task more difficult," Rogge said at a reception in Hong Kong.

Rogge promised that he would not use the old phrase "the best ever" in his closing ceremony speech on Sunday night, but rather use some better words to "express my resounding recognition for Beijing and Hong Kong." "Even 'wonderful' is no longer enough; it will be better than that word," Rogge teased.

Rogge indicated that athletes and spectators were very satisfied with the organizational work in Beijing and Hong Kong, the equestrian event venue. "Even those nitpicking media outlets, when they see me, say: 'President, we have to criticize you, but we've never experienced such good treatment,'" implying that the media believed the treatment provided by China was too good, making the IOC seem less impressive by comparison.
