Belarusian lifter wins gold in men's 105kg weightlifting, breaking world record

The 20-year-old Belarusian athlete Andrei Aramnov won the gold medal in the men's 105 kg weightlifting category at the Beijing Olympics on August 18th and broke all three world records as well as the Olympic records.

Aramnov's winning total was 436 kg (snatch 200 kg, clean and jerk 236 kg). In his third snatch attempt, he increased the world record by 1 kg, and in his third clean and jerk attempt, he also raised the clean and jerk world record by 1 kg. However, he improved the overall world record by an impressive 6 kg. At the same time, he rewrote all three Olympic records.

Russian athlete Denis Klokov won the silver medal with a total of 423 kg. His teammate Denis Lapirov and Polish athlete Marcin Dolega both lifted 420 kg; Lapirov had a lighter body weight, securing another bronze medal for Russia.
