Although various signs indicate that Microsoft will release its next-generation operating system, Windows 7, ahead of schedule, some analysts have recently stated not to expect a Windows 7 launch before 2010.
Currently, the industry generally believes that Windows 7 will be released at the end of 2009 or early 2010. However, in mid-September, it was reported that the internal release date for Windows 7 at Microsoft was June 3, 2009.
Recently, some observant netizens also noticed that Microsoft mentioned on the WinHEC 2008 (Hardware Engineering Conference) website: "This will be the last WinHEC before the release of Windows 7." This suggests that if next year's WinHEC is held as usual, then Windows 7 will be released before November of next year.
However, some analysts hold different opinions. The date for WinHEC 2009 has not yet been announced. Typically, WinHEC is held in April or May each year, but this year was an exception. Therefore, the possibility of releasing Windows 7 before May 2009 is almost zero.
