Bob Kelly, vice president of Microsoft's Infrastructure Server Marketing, announced at the Worldwide Partner Conference in Houston on July 9th that SQL Server 2008 will be listed on Microsoft’s product price list in August. He stated that the pricing for SQL Server 2008 will be the same as SQL Server 2005.
Microsoft released the Release Candidate 0 test version of SQL Server 2008 in early June, which is already close to the final version.
Microsoft officially "launched" SQL Server 2008 in February this year, along with Visual Studio 2008 and Windows Server 2008. Earlier this year, Microsoft officials planned to release SQL Server 2008 by mid-2008, but a few months ago, they postponed the release date of the final version to the third quarter of 2008 again.
Kelly also announced that Microsoft has released the beta version (Release Candidate 1, which is close to the final version) of Windows Essential Business Server 2008 and Windows Small Business Server 2008, which will be available for download on the Microsoft Connect website. Microsoft also plans to officially launch these two servers on November 12th.
