March 20th, Beijing - This afternoon, China's first batch of Internet search engine servers installed in Japan began system testing. This marks a substantial first step in Baidu's internationalization strategy.
The test version of the homepage of Baidu's Japanese website (www.baidu.jp) has already gone online. Currently, it only offers two products: web pages and images, but both can already return search results. According to Baidu, over the past few months, their technical team has been establishing a data center for the Japanese site and conducting internal tests. It is claimed that this is also the first time that a Chinese Internet company has placed servers and data centers on such a large scale abroad.
