Google Officially Explains Why It Changed the Small Icon

Google changed the small icon (Favicon) in the browser address bar, switching from a capital G to a lowercase g that looks like an 8. Today, Google finally provided an official explanation for this change after maintaining the tradition for 8.5 years. Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Google Search Products and User Experience, said that the change was made primarily to accommodate the needs of new mobile platforms like the iPhone.
