Google's Philanthropic Site Goes Live

Google.org (the philanthropic arm of Google) is dedicated to operating the charitable programs of the Google Foundation, primarily focusing on global issues of poverty, energy, and the environment. Dr. Larry Brilliant serves as the executive director of this charitable initiative. This program is for-profit in nature and is mainly used to fund the establishment and early development of some charitable organizations. It can not only support startups in collaborating with venture capitalists but may also lobby Congress to influence the formulation of some public policies.

The New York Times reported on the 14th that from the plans proposed by Google.org, one can see its distinct approach compared to traditional methods. For example, one of the organization’s plans is to develop an ultra-fuel-efficient hybrid vehicle engine that uses a mix of ethanol, electricity, and gasoline. The goal of this plan is to reduce dependence on oil and improve global greenhouse effects.
