Group consultation
At 9 a.m. yesterday, led by Director Qu Qian, 22 prestigious experts from multiple hospitals across the city specializing in pediatrics, ultrasound, radiology, neurosurgery, and other fields conducted a group consultation for the two-headed baby girl.
During the consultation, the experts also debated whether the two-headed baby was a single entity or conjoined twins. The experts concluded that although the two-headed baby has two heads, two spinal systems, two esophagi, two stomachs, two tracheas, two lungs, and one and a half hearts, it shares one torso, one gallbladder, one spleen, one pelvis, one bladder, one reproductive system, and two kidneys. Based on various anatomical conditions, the experts unanimously determined that the two-headed baby is a single entity.
The consulting experts affirmed the previous examination, diagnosis, and treatment plans for the two-headed baby and provided relevant suggestions and opinions for further steps. The experts ultimately agreed that the top priority is to save the baby's life and quickly stabilize her condition.
Director Qu Qian also stated that the vital signs of the two-headed baby are temporarily stable. Next, they will continue to organize the best experts from the city to help Xinqiao Hospital develop a scientific treatment plan.
The case of the two-headed baby girl from Suining, Sichuan, who came to Chongqing for treatment, has drawn significant attention from all sectors of society in our city. Yesterday, under the leadership of Director Qu Qian from the Health Bureau, a group of experts from across the city conducted a consultation at Xinqiao Hospital, hoping to establish a more scientific rescue plan to protect the young life.
After the expert consultation, it was finally determined that the two-headed baby is a single entity and not the usual type of conjoined twins.
The baby remains in critical condition
Doctors from the pediatric department of Xinqiao Hospital introduced that although the current physical condition of the two-headed baby has improved compared to when she was admitted, she still has not escaped life-threatening danger. Her cardio-pulmonary function is severely abnormal, especially with very serious respiratory failure, as well as ischemic hypoxic encephalopathy, mixed acidosis, and multi-organ damage issues.
The experts believe that since the child has only been born for just over a week, her body's tolerance is limited. Considering the harm of radiation to newborns, some tests have yet to be carried out, and a full diagnosis of her overall condition is still needed. Especially because the baby's life is in an extremely dangerous period, the two heads are too close, causing severe compression, leading to rapid breathing, fast heartbeat, and symptoms such as lung infection and neonatal jaundice. Moreover, the right side of the head has already shown signs of plagiocephaly syndrome, which could affect visual and cognitive development. Therefore, without a complete understanding of the patient's physical condition, surgery cannot be rashly performed at this time.
The hospital has formed a 24-hour emergency care team
It is understood that due to the particularity and complexity of the two-headed baby’s condition, Xinqiao Hospital has established a leadership team led by the president and political commissar, as well as an expert treatment team led by the directors of pediatrics and cardiac surgery. Additionally, a dedicated 24-hour special care team has been formed. Currently, according to the consultation plan, the hospital is developing treatment and feeding plans, striving to help the baby quickly escape life-threatening danger.
Chongqing Evening News reporters also learned that the baby's aunt, grandfather, and grandmother traveled from Suining to visit yesterday. Nurses informed them that the baby can now feed herself, increasing her milk intake from 5 ml, then 8 ml, to 10 ml per feeding. After hearing this, the family members showed a long-awaited smile.
