[Content Introduction]:

This popular series that premiered in 2003 entered its fifth season in 2007. It tells the story of two plastic surgeons, Troy and McNamara, who are in the midst of a midlife crisis and uncertain futures as they perform various surgeries like breast augmentations, liposuctions, and sex reassignments for all kinds of people.

The show won the 2004 Emmy Award for "Best Prosthetic Makeup," was nominated for the 2004 American Television Association's "Most Compelling Award," received nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best TV Series at the Golden Globes on January 17, 2005, and ultimately won the award for "Best Drama Series."

When it first aired, the show achieved a viewership rating of 16.2%, which steadily climbed and maintained around 22%, making it the highest-rated program on American cable television.

The story begins with an outpatient surgical center named "McNamara-Troy" located in South Florida, owned by Dr. McNamara and Dr. Troy. Besides their work at the clinic, these two doctors nearing middle age also have personal lives filled with troubles.

Sean McNamara is facing a crisis in his marriage and is trying hard to restore the relationship. Christian Troy, on the other hand, is a charming "playboy" without a stable romantic life, hiding a lonely heart behind his carefree demeanor. Christian often causes trouble due to distractions and other work issues, which Sean has to resolve for him.

"Nip/Tuck" producer Ryan Murphy discussed the fifth season of the show, revealing that this season will move the setting to Los Angeles, a decision welcomed by audiences.

Some might think that a drama about plastic surgeons set against the backdrop of Miami, where cosmetic surgery is prevalent, would be appropriate, but reality proved otherwise, presenting Ryan with a more challenging task.

"Nip/Tuck" Season 5 is ready to air starting on October 30th, with significant changes seeing the two doctors bringing their skills to Los Angeles.

To promote the fifth season, Murphy took part in a phone interview with journalists.

The biggest change in the show is moving the setting to Los Angeles — a topic of great interest and discussion, with surprising reasons behind the change.

"(Moving to Los Angeles) was really just because I got tired," Murphy said, "It was time for our elite characters to shine in a big city. If I were to direct two more seasons, I needed something fresh in this show."

Murphy believes the show has always exhibited a strong Los Angeles style from the start, characterized by laughter coexisting with pain and a touch of despair.

This season of "Nip/Tuck" extends from the previous 15 episodes to 22 episodes (according to IMDB, there are only 20 episodes). Murphy admitted that such an extension put immense pressure on him. While it may be one season for the audience, for Murphy, it consists of relatively independent three parts, making scheduling more convenient.

So what’s new in this season? Murphy assured that all plastic surgery cases will remain bizarre, unusual, and surprising as ever.

"I remember when we were filming the face transplant scene, it drew a lot of attention as if it had never happened before," Murphy said, "After that episode aired, the first-ever face transplant was performed."

"Season 5 is like a combination of 'Nip/Tuck,' 'ER,' and 'Grey’s Anatomy.' Some might find the romantic scenes and the realistically gory bloodshed uncomfortable, but it's really fun to write."

Season 5 has a larger budget thanks to FX Network's robust development.

"Our network has grown nearly three times stronger than before. Therefore, we have received strong support," Murphy said, "If I need anything else, FX Network will always do its best to help me."

Besides writing scripts for the new season, Murphy also did some things beyond being a producer — he became a listener for fans, learning from them what they like or dislike.

One thing will never change, and that is Dr. Troy (played by Julian McMahon), who becomes a grandfather this season but remains a flirtatious and arrogant figure. Murphy said, "Yes, his character will continue until the end of time."
