The story's main character, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.), is the president of "Stark Industries," which has enjoyed an extremely high reputation for decades due to its role in protecting America's global interests. At this point, Tony’s enviable life takes a 360-degree turn when his team is attacked during a weapons test, and he is kidnapped and held hostage by a group of militants. In this accident, his already fragile heart is severely damaged by shrapnel, putting his life in critical danger. He is forced to obey the orders of the mysterious militant leader to build a highly destructive weapon. However, he secretly defies the command, using his intelligence to create a suit of iron armor that helps sustain his life and allows him to escape from the clutches of the militants. After returning to the United States, Tony must confront his past and vows to lead "Stark Industries" in a new direction. However, during his absence, his leadership position was taken over by his right-hand man, CEO Obadiah Stane (played by Jeff Bridges). He has no choice but to spend day and night in his workshop developing more advanced iron armor to gain superhuman strength to protect himself, despite Obadiah Stane's interference. With the help of his assistant Pepper Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) and trusted Colonel Rhodes (played by Terrence Howard), Tony uncovers a global plan for terrorist destruction. Wearing his newly powerful red-and-gold iron armor, he declares his intention to protect the world from the threat of evil forces. Now, Tony is — Iron Man.
