Wang Jiazhi (played by Tang Wei), originally a student at Lingnan University, moves to Hong Kong due to the war. In Hong Kong, she joins a patriotic drama group organized by Kuang Yumin (played by Leehom Wang). Their patriotic play ignites their nationalistic spirit. When Kuang learns that Mr. Yi (played by Tony Leung), the head of the secret police under the puppet government, is in Hong Kong, they plot to assassinate him. Under the alias "Mrs. Mai," Wang Jiazhi quickly gains the trust and affection of Mrs. Yi (played by Joan Chen). At the same time, the beautiful "Mrs. Mai" catches Mr. Yi's eye. Just as things are progressing smoothly, Mr. Yi suddenly has to return to Shanghai.
