The common people look forward to the Spring Festival Gala, thinking about it from the beginning to the end of the year. In short, they just want to see a few great performances by famous stars. However, according to a heavyweight figure from the CCTV Spring Festival Gala crew, Zhao Benshan had an unpleasant disagreement with CCTV over the selection of his comedy sketch partner for the gala and openly challenged CCTV, which might lead to him being abandoned by the gala crew.
Zhao Benshan's personal profile:
Birthday: 1957
Zodiac sign: Pisces

Zhao Benshan's life experience:
When Zhao Benshan was 6 years old, he became an orphan and started learning art from his second uncle (a blind man). He is proficient in playing the erhu, blowing the suona, throwing handkerchiefs, playing the hand jade, singing folk songs, performing Errenzhuan small hats, and especially excels in playing the sanxian. His difficult childhood became a lifelong wealth for Zhao Benshan and laid a solid foundation for his future comedy and acting career. At the age of 17, Zhao Benshan joined the commune's cultural propaganda team, then entered the Weiyuan Township amateur theater troupe, and later borrowed to the Xifeng County theater troupe as the main performer for Errenzhuan.
In 1982, during the first rural small play performance organized by Liaoning Province, Zhao Benshan played the role of the blind man Zhang Zhi in the play "Falling Sanxian" written by Li Zhongtang and Cui Kai, gaining fame overnight. The play won the first prize for performance. That year, Zhao Benshan was admitted into the Tieling County theater troupe, serving as the main performer and business director. In 1986, he was transferred to the Tieling City Folk Art Troupe. Back then, Zhao Benshan and Pan Changjiang performed more than 200 shows of the Errenzhuan "Da Guan Deng" in Shenyang, every show was packed, causing a sensation in Northeast China.
In 1987, under Jiang Kun's recommendation, Zhao Benshan made his debut on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, starting his even more brilliant artistic career. On the gala, his comedy sketches such as "Seeking Marriage", "Red Sorghum Model Team", "Three Whips", "Giving Gifts", "Hourly Worker", "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow", "Selling Crutches", and "Selling Cars" all won first or second prizes.
In recent years, he ventured into film and television performances, starring in films such as "Happy Time", "Male Women's Director", "Jing Ke Assassinating Qin Shi Huang", "Let's Talk Nicely", etc., and self-written and directed TV series like "Liu Laogen" and "Ma Dajie" were extremely popular on TV screens. The movie "Male Women's Director" that he personally invested in and starred in won the national "Golden Rooster Award" in 1998, and he also won the Best Male Actor Award; to promote the development of art, he founded the "Benshan Art Company". From September 5th to 10th, 2002, the "Zhao Benshan Cup" Comedy Sketch Competition named after Zhao Benshan was held concurrently with the first International Folk Art Festival of Tieling, China, receiving widespread praise.
For many years, he has been involved in comedy sketch performances, participating in countless galas. Wherever he goes, he always leaves joy to others and applause for himself.
Reason for Zhao Benshan:
Due to disagreements with CCTV over the selection of his comedy sketch partner for the Spring Festival Gala, Zhao Benshan openly challenged CCTV, which might lead to him being abandoned by the gala crew. The controversial "partner selection" refers to Zhao Benshan's "problematic apprentice" — Zhang Xiaofei.
In fact, Zhao Benshan had already handed over the script of his 2007 Spring Festival Gala comedy sketch to the gala crew long ago, but there was an issue with the actors. This comedy sketch, tentatively titled "Renting a Girlfriend to Go Home for the New Year," has an engaging plot and was recognized by the gala crew. However, the male supporting actor in the sketch is Zhao Benshan's apprentice Zhang Xiaofei! At that time, the gala crew felt it was inappropriate and proposed to Zhao Benshan to "replace" the male supporting actor, but Zhao Benshan did not agree. After the gala crew reported to the CCTV leadership, the instruction from the CCTV leadership was: "Zhang Xiaofei must be replaced." The gala crew urgently contacted Zhao Benshan and tried to persuade him. Of course, the reason for replacing Zhang Xiaofei was not the sensitive "Zhao Benshan criticizing CCTV" incident, but another reason — the "ghost uniform incident" involving Zhang Xiaofei.
However, Zhao Benshan believed that the other party's intention was not genuine, the "ghost uniform" was just an excuse, and actually, it was resentment towards the previous "criticism" incident (because the reason for the "ghost uniform" had already been explained). Therefore, his response to CCTV was: this script was specifically tailored for Zhang Xiaofei, and many of the "special skills" in the play could only be handled by Zhang Xiaofei. Replacing him might not be feasible. Since Zhao Benshan was busy with the follow-up work of the movie "Leaves Returning to Roots," the entire month of January 2007 would be spent promoting the movie, and he would need to visit 15 cities. If he had to rewrite the script, it could only be done by the end of January, and with writing the script plus rehearsals, there definitely wouldn't be enough time. He still hoped that the gala crew would "show mercy" and continue using the original script and actors. It is said that when the gala crew reported the above situation to the CCTV leadership, the leadership was very displeased, believing that Zhao Benshan was too "arrogant," and issued the instruction: "If the actor is not replaced, then the script will be changed," and said, "CCTV can do without anyone."
