Introduction:
"Off Pedder" is a situational comedy produced by Hong Kong's TVB. The content revolves around office disputes and family stories. The number of episodes is tentatively set at 260, each half an hour long. This series uses a "trendy" magazine company as its main backdrop and retains most of the cast from the series "Colleagues Three Times Closer."
The term "Pedder" in "Off Pedder" comes from Pedder Street (a main street in Central, Hong Kong), echoing the show's Central setting. The entire title is also a Cantonese pun for "not fighting one's own people." The English title "Off Pedder" humorously plays on the name of the famous fashion store located on Pedder Street, "On Pedder."
"Off Pedder" is more than just a situational comedy satirizing office politics; it profoundly and realistically depicts the precious friendships between colleagues, family, and friends. In the drama, the deep father-daughter relationship between Zhen Shang (played by Mao Sunyun) and her father Zhen Dade (played by He Shouxin) who depend on each other, and the maternal bond between Jia Susan (played by Jin Yanling) and her daughter separated for twenty years, repeatedly confirm the truth that there is emotion in the world. Additionally, the series features many unique characters, such as the devout fortune-telling witch Grandma Jin Yaojian (played by Jiang Xinyan); the deeply affectionate aunt-nephew trio Zhong Wenjihao (played by Wu Junli), and siblings Yujia Sheng (played by Li Yaotang) and Yu Leye (played by Zheng Xinyi); and Zhen Shang's ex-husband Yun Ru Da (played by Ou Jintang)... Together, they weave a lively and joyous symphony of human interaction!
The editorial department of "Tide" magazine suddenly becomes a vacuum overnight! Senior media professional Yin Shang (played by Mao Sunyun) is immediately invited with great effort by Yan Qi, chairman of Jinbo Group (played by Chen Honglie), to take up the position of editor-in-chief. Yin Shang's appearance greatly disrupts the usually domineering sales manager Jia Susan (played by Jin Yanling). To protect her hard-earned power base, she frequently devises strategies to reorganize her team, but unfortunately, her assistant "Super Witch" Grandma Jin Yaoshen (played by Jiang Xinyan) only adds trouble and confusion, often complicating simple matters! From then on, a private power struggle centered around three women erupts continuously on Pedder Street in Central! Every day since Yin Shang took charge of "Tide," besides being busy with various tasks large and small within the magazine, she also has to solve all kinds of thorny problems: the eccentric and difficult female boss - Vice Chairman of the Group Wang Liwei (played by Guo Shaoyun), the smiling tiger high-level official parachuted from the parent company Yujia Sheng (played by Li Yaotang), and Jia Susan (played by Jin Yanling), the arch-rival of the magazine's sales department, none of whom are easy opponents. Moreover, the quirky subordinates within the company cause endless trouble, such as salesperson Yu Leye (played by Zheng Xinyi), intern reporter Chen Baola (played by Chen Yinmei), and data collector Bao Guoren (played by Xu Rong), who often fail to achieve success and instead create chaos, leaving Zhen Shang to clean up one mess after another, leaving her exhausted...
