Currently, there are three global Chinese input methods on the iPhone that can be used in all applications: NativeCn, iCosta, and WeFIT. NativeCN, developed by Hong Kongers Gary and iczfirz, utilizes the Japanese input keyboard built into the iPhone, embedding a Chinese input code table within it to enable global Chinese input; Holly Lee and Pinxue from Shanghai wrote iCosta at the Costa Coffee in Xujiahui. It "is essentially an additional library that is automatically loaded when SpringBoard starts via dyld, and implements Chinese input by overriding some methods" (according to n000b); WeFIT is somewhat special as it is derived from Fun Input Toy (FIT), one of the most popular Chinese input methods on the Mac platform. The popularity of FIT has generated tremendous anticipation for WeFIT, and from the very beginning, iPhone enthusiasts knew that WeFIT was more than just "another Chinese input method for the iPhone." Indeed, it has lived up to expectations, with its powerful phrase function winning over many loyal users of iCosta. Currently, WeFIT can be directly installed on iPhones of all firmware versions through Installer.app, and its version number has reached Preview 6.1. Before the official release of version 1.0, Feng Huajun, the key figure behind WeFIT, took time out of his intensive development schedule to be interviewed by our site.
