The Taj Mahal in Agra, India, is a white marble tomb built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Construction began in 1632 and took 15 years to complete. This hemispherical mausoleum is considered the finest example of Islamic architectural art. It features four minarets, each standing 13 stories high. Not long after the completion of the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan was deposed by one of his sons and placed under house arrest. It's said that he spent his remaining days gazing at the Taj Mahal through a window.
