The "Christ the Redeemer" statue, standing at a total height of 105 feet (38 meters) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was successfully selected as one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World" announced on July 7, becoming a new wonder created by humanity as chosen by people around the globe.
The New Seven Wonders of the World were determined through online and telephone voting, similar to the format of American Idol. The other six New Wonders of the World are the Great Wall of China, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, the Incan Machu Picchu site in Peru, the El Castillo pyramid at Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Roman Colosseum, and the Taj Mahal.
