Polishing is a process that comes after grinding and has a different function. Grinding aims to level the paint surface, removing deep contaminants such as stripes and oxidized layers; polishing further smooths the paint surface after grinding, eliminating residual grinding stripes. The moisturizing components in the polishing agent penetrate the paint surface, allowing it to reveal its natural luster softly. Polishing agents can also be used alone to remove minor oxidation and dirt. The polishing of automobile paint surfaces and quality requirements are as follows:
**Basic Tools**:
- Grinder/polisher, sponge wool polishing pad (W8000~W9000 grade)
- Edge-sealing tape
- Large towel
- Spray bottle
- Pure cotton towel
**Supplies**:
- Strong polishing agent
- Restorative polishing agent
- Brightening agent
**Time Requirement**:
2~3 hours (for one person), depending on the situation.
**Operational Steps**:
**Step 1: Grinding**
Complete the grinding work. (Refer to "Grinding Service Process and Quality Requirements")
**Step 2: Polishing Process**
(1) Soak the sponge polishing pad, install it on the grinder, let it idle for 5 seconds, and shake off excess water.
(2) Shake the polishing agent well, pour a small amount onto the sponge polishing pad, and evenly apply it on the paint surface using the polishing pad.
(3) Adjust the grinder's speed to 1800-2200 r/min, start the grinder/polisher, and move it back and forth linearly along the body direction. The long stripe trajectories covered by the polishing pad should overlap each other by one-third, ensuring no large areas of paint are missed. Polishing order: follow the sequence of right roof - right front hood - left front hood - right front fender - right front door - right rear door - right rear fender - trunk lid for the right side of the car, and do the opposite for the left side. When polishing the roof, open the car doors, place towels on the door edges, and step on them while operating.
(4) During polishing, maintain the temperature of the polishing pad and paint surface at normal levels. If the paint surface temperature rises more than 20°C, spray water to cool down the ground area.
(5) For edge positions where the grinder/polisher cannot be used, manually polish with a dry towel dipped in polishing agent. Polish all painted areas of the entire car, including painted bumpers, making sure these areas don't get too hot. Pay attention to edges and corners, and avoid applying excessive force because the paint layer is thinner in these areas.
(6) After polishing the paint surface, clean the entire car with a pure cotton towel.
**Key Points**: Control the speed and humidity of the polishing pad, pay attention to the temperature of the paint surface and the edges/corners.
**Quality Standards**: Remove residual grinding stripes; ensure no areas are missed; the paint surface should have a consistent color; compared to before polishing, there should be a noticeable improvement in brightness, approaching that of a new car; natural gloss appears, and you can see clear reflections when placing a newspaper on the paint surface.
**Precautions**: Be mindful of others nearby, report any issues promptly.
1. Shake the polishing agent well before use to maintain good performance.
2. All polishing pads should be cleaned and smoothed before use to ensure no particles remain. After use, wash them immediately and let them air dry in a cool place.
3. Operations must be conducted indoors to prevent windblown sand from causing scratches on the paint surface. Business tips for automotive beauty products.
4. Avoid lingering too long on the car’s edges/corners while using the polisher to prevent exposing the paint surface.
5. Use a sponge polishing pad after polishing, or replace it with a W9000/W9006 sponge restorative pad.
6. Pay attention to the safe use of the grinder/polisher.
7. Usage of materials (refer to "Material Safety Usage Instructions").
