Plot introduction:
In the year 680 AD, Emperor Gaozong Li Zhi personally went to Mount Tai for a celestial worship ceremony. Crown Prince Li Xian was sent ahead to Shandong Taian to arrange the details of the event but got entangled in a conspiracy that changed his own destiny and rewrote the history of the Tang Dynasty... This ancient injustice led to the wrongful deaths of many guards, the dethronement of Crown Prince Li Xian, and also implicated high-ranking officials such as Guo Xiangcheng and Zhang Jianzhi, along with dozens of officials from Taian Prefecture. Zhang Jianzhi, in times of crisis, secretly wrote to Di Renjie who was on vacation at home, pointing out the essence of the Taian case - someone had deliberately framed Crown Prince Li Xian, attempting to usurp the position of the heir apparent. Unfortunately, the emperor believed the fabricated facts rather than his own flesh and blood. This would inevitably trigger deep turmoil within the court, affecting the long-term stability of the nation. He asked Di Renjie to help investigate this case thoroughly, clear the prince's name, and resolve this major national crisis.
With a heavy heart, Di Renjie, without an imperial decree, ventured to Taian based on his sense of responsibility to the state and society, determined to uncover the truth behind this ancient injustice. Although he conducted a series of intelligent and perilous investigations, what Di Renjie didn't expect was that all the clues he uncovered were actually traps set for him, ironclad evidence meant to kill him; his opponent not only understood his penchant for meddling in others' affairs but also had an accurate grasp of his style of solving cases. However, he realized it too late - thus, over sixteen years, Di Renjie experienced seven complex cases within cases: Chengdu Case, Luoyang Case (1), Bozhou Case, Crown Prince Consort Case, Fuzhou Case, Luoyang Case (2). He continuously thwarted the unrest conspiracies orchestrated by royal relatives and external forces, maintaining national stability, social harmony, and the well-being of the people - the arduousness, tension, danger, political fluctuations, and the dramatic impact of these events were unparalleled - just as the entire story was about to end, the adversary brazenly appeared at Di Renjie's residence and stabbed his only son, Di Guangyuan, with a plum blossom invisible poison needle! The adversary left a note, demanding that Di Renjie exchange his son's life for the freedom of his father, Crown Prince Li Xian. Finally, Di Renjie met his old and new adversaries face-to-face. Without hesitation, he exposed their plans and warned them that the eighteen regional commanders had already received orders to march northward; the three ten-thousand-strong army they had painstakingly assembled would likely meet a grim fate! The old adversary remarked, "I am a man of the Tang Dynasty in life and its ghost in death. For the sake of the country, I can place everything else aside..." A calm voice then sounded, "If one doesn't care about the lives of loved ones or the lives of commoners, is this still a nation? Is this still a family?" This calm voice came from Crown Prince Li Xian himself, who sighed to his old adversary, "Teacher, stop. Di Renjie is right. No one wishes to see endless warfare. Even if the previous emperor were alive, he would absolutely not allow you to do this!"
Waves of cavalry and infantry surged forward under the guidance of the great "Li" flag. Similarly, waves of cavalry encircled them from all sides, trapping the "Li Army" in the wilderness. As the two armies faced off, a battle seemed imminent. At this critical moment, the sound of crisp hoofbeats was heard. Both armies turned to see a short but agile cavalry unit, with Di Renjie and Li Xian galloping at the front. The smoke of war did not rise, and the sun in the sky remained bright.
Thus ends this chapter of Di Renjie's story. The result was Empress Wu Zetian granting a general amnesty, and the protracted Taian injustice finally being overturned. Li Xian was found innocent, Miss Liang involved in the case was found innocent, and Miss Qiao's crimes were also pardoned. A carriage drove out of Luoyang city, with Di Renjie and his wife aboard, and none other than Li Xian driving the carriage, while Sezi rode a horse following behind. Di Renjie's wife wanted him to advise which young lady would be more suitable for their son, but all she received was Di Renjie's snoring. He was too exhausted, deeply asleep!
The carriage continued moving forward, gradually disappearing into the green mountains and clear waters.
